1956 Barratt Famous Footballers #30 Roy Paul MGC 2
This Roy Paul card is number 30 from the 1956 Barratt Famous Footballers series. The card has been graded MGC 2 by Majesty Grading Company.
The card was issued during a memorable year for Paul. In April 1956, he captained Manchester City to a 3-1 victory over Birmingham City in the FA Cup final, the match best remembered for goalkeeper Bert Trautmann playing on despite suffering a broken neck. It was City’s second successive cup final appearance, having lost to Newcastle United the year before.
Born in Ton Pentre in the Rhondda Valley on 18 April 1920, Paul left school at 15 to work as a coal miner before signing for Swansea Town. He made 159 league appearances for the Swans before joining Manchester City in June 1950 for £19,500. He captained the club for seven seasons, making 293 appearances.
He won 33 caps for Wales and is the uncle of Swansea City legend Alan Curtis.
