1996-97 Merlin Premier Gold Masters of the Game #M10 David Ginola ACE 6
This David Ginola card is number M10 from the Masters of the Game insert subset in the 1996-97 Merlin Premier Gold collection. The subset consists of 15 cards featuring the leading international players in the Premier League.
Merlin Premier Gold was a premium trading card set produced annually during the late 1990s, featuring foil card designs across the Premier League. The Masters of the Game subset is one of several chase inserts in the set, featuring metallic foil technology and significantly scarcer than the 161 card base set.
Ginola was in his second season at Newcastle when this card was issued. He had arrived from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 1995, signed by Kevin Keegan as part of the attacking revolution at St James’ Park. The French winger’s pace, skill and flair made him one of the most watchable players in the division, with his performance in Newcastle’s famous 5-0 demolition of Manchester United in October 1996 among the highlights of the 1996-97 campaign.
Ginola departed Newcastle for Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 1997, where he would go on to win both the FWA and PFA Player of the Year awards in 1999.
