1997 Merlin Premier Gold #140 John Hartson MGC 9
This John Hartson card is number 140 from the 1997 Merlin Premier Gold collection. The card has been graded MGC 9 Mint by Majesty Grading Company.
The card features Hartson as a West Ham United player. He had joined from Arsenal in February 1997 for £3.2 million, becoming the club’s most expensive signing at the time. The 1997-98 season saw him become West Ham’s leading marksman, scoring 24 goals in all competitions.
Born in Swansea on 5 April 1975, Hartson began his career at Luton Town before joining Arsenal at the age of 19 for a then British record fee for a teenager. He went on to enjoy his greatest success at Celtic, where he scored over 100 goals and won three league titles. He won 51 caps for Wales, scoring 14 goals.
Hartson was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2009 and has since dedicated himself to raising awareness through The John Hartson Foundation.
