1997 Merlin Premier Gold #93 Steve McManaman MGC 10
This Steve McManaman card is number 93 from the 1997 Merlin Premier Gold collection, covering the 1997-98 Premier League season.
Merlin Premier Gold was a premium trading card set produced annually during the late 1990s, featuring foil card designs across the Premier League.
McManaman was in his seventh full season at Liverpool when this card was issued. Following the departure of John Barnes, he became the most experienced player in the squad and was named vice captain to Paul Ince.
He scored 12 goals during the 1997-98 campaign, including two of the most memorable strikes of his career. In November 1997 he scored the winner against eventual champions Arsenal with a stunning volley, earning him the Premier League Player of the Month award for December 1997. He also scored a spectacular stoppage time solo goal against Celtic in the UEFA Cup following a 75 yard dribble. Liverpool finished third in the Premier League.
