1997 Merlin Premier Gold #9 Tony Adams MGC 10
This Tony Adams card is number 9 from the 1997 Merlin Premier Gold collection, covering the 1997-98 Premier League season.
Merlin Premier Gold was a premium trading card set produced annually during the late 1990s, featuring foil card designs across the Premier League.
Adams captained Arsenal to the Premier League and FA Cup Double in 1997-98, his first full season under Arsène Wenger. It was Arsenal’s first league title in seven years and their second Double in club history.
Although his appearances were restricted by injury during the campaign, Adams produced one of the most iconic moments in Arsenal’s history on the final day of the season. With Arsenal already 3-0 up against Everton and the title confirmed, he was played through by Steve Bould, took a touch and rifled a left footed finish into the corner from the edge of the area. The arms aloft celebration is immortalised in his statue outside the Emirates Stadium.
