1996 Merlin Premier Gold #67 Emile Heskey MGC 9
This Emile Heskey card is number 67 from the 1996 Merlin Premier Gold collection, covering the 1996-97 Premier League season.
Merlin Premier Gold was a premium trading card set produced annually during the late 1990s, featuring foil card designs across the Premier League.
Heskey was just 18 years old when this card was issued, in his first full season in the Premier League following Leicester City’s promotion under Martin O’Neill. He had made his debut as a 17 year old the previous season while the club was still in the First Division.
The 1996-97 campaign was a breakthrough season for Heskey. He scored 10 goals in 35 Premier League appearances and played a key role in Leicester’s run to the League Cup final against Middlesbrough, scoring the equaliser at Wembley. Leicester won the replay 1-0 at Hillsborough to claim their first major trophy in the club’s history.
