Kenny Dalglish (1969–1990, Liverpool, Scotland and Celtic)
Kenny Dalglish was a forward of rare vision and one of the finest British players of his generation, born in Glasgow in 1951. He began his career with Celtic, where across a decade he won four league titles, four Scottish Cups and the Scottish League Cup, and became one of the most sought-after forwards in the game.
In 1977 he joined Liverpool for a British record fee of £440,000, and the move began the most successful spell of his career. He won six league titles and three European Cups as a player, and was twice voted Footballer of the Year, in 1979 and 1983.
Known to supporters as King Kenny, he became player-manager in 1985 and led the club to the League and FA Cup Double in his first season in charge.
For Scotland he won a record 102 caps and scored 30 goals, a joint record, between 1971 and 1986, and appeared at the 1974, 1978 and 1982 World Cups.
He was appointed MBE in 1985 and knighted in 2018. He was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2002.
