One of the most important pre-Munich Manchester United cards ever issued, this 1957 Bubble Gum Manchester United Series 1 card features Duncan Edwards among the players pictured. Produced in the United Kingdom and distributed with Bubble Gum Ltd. confectionery, the set was released during the 1956–57 season, capturing the Busby Babes at their peak.
Printed on thin, uncoated paper stock typical of 1950s gum issues, very few examples have survived in good condition. PSA’s population report confirms only five graded copies in total, with this PSA 8 (Near Mint–Mint) standing as the highest-graded example known. The next-best copy is graded PSA 5, emphasising the exceptional preservation of this particular card.
Its issue date — less than a year before the 1958 Munich air disaster — and the inclusion of Duncan Edwards give this piece exceptional historical importance. It represents one of the final team cards produced before the tragedy and would stand as a centrepiece item in any serious Manchester United collection.
