1990 Pro Set #61 Ian Wright ACE 8
This Ian Wright card is number 61 from the 1990 Pro Set English Football collection, covering the 1990-91 First Division season.
The 1990 Pro Set was the debut series of English football cards produced by the American manufacturer Pro Set, featuring a 328 card checklist covering all four divisions.
Wright was in his fifth season at Crystal Palace and had become one of the most exciting forwards in English football. The previous season he had announced himself on the national stage by scoring twice as a substitute in the 1990 FA Cup final against Manchester United, having recovered from a broken leg.
The 1990-91 campaign saw Crystal Palace finish third in the First Division, the highest league position in the club’s history. Wright scored 25 goals during the season, including a hat trick in just 18 minutes against Wimbledon. His prolific form made a move to a bigger club inevitable, and he signed for Arsenal in September 1991 for a club record £2.5 million.
