Born in Llandudno on 16 September 1958, Southall worked as a binman and hod carrier before turning professional. He joined Everton for £150,000 in 1981 and became the cornerstone of the club’s most successful era, winning two league titles, two FA Cups, and the European Cup Winners’ Cup. He was named in the PFA Team of the Year for four consecutive seasons.
