1990 Pro Set #101 Bruce Grobbelaar MGC 9
This Bruce Grobbelaar card is number 101 from the 1990 Pro Set English Football collection, covering the 1990-91 First Division season.
The 1990 Pro Set was the debut series of English football cards produced by the American manufacturer Pro Set, featuring a 328 card checklist covering all four divisions.
Grobbelaar was in his 10th season as Liverpool’s first choice goalkeeper when this card was issued. The previous campaign had seen Liverpool win the First Division title for the 18th time under Kenny Dalglish, with Grobbelaar an ever present between the posts.
The 1990-91 season proved to be the end of an era at Anfield. Dalglish resigned as manager in February 1991 and was replaced by Graeme Souness. Liverpool finished as league runners up to Arsenal. Grobbelaar remained the undisputed number one, continuing a run as first choice that stretched back to his arrival in 1981 when he replaced Ray Clemence.
