1990 Pro Set #48 Dean Saunders MGC 10
This Dean Saunders card is number 48 from the 1990 Pro Set English Football collection, covering the 1991-92 season, his debut campaign at Liverpool.
The 1990 Pro Set was the second series of English football cards produced by the American manufacturer Pro Set, comprising over 500 cards across two parts and featuring players from all four divisions.
Saunders had signed for Liverpool from Derby County in July 1991 for £2.9 million, a new British transfer record. He joined a side being reshaped by manager Graeme Souness and was intended as a long term strike partner for Ian Rush, who was also his partner for the Wales national team.
He made a strong start at Anfield, finishing his debut season with 23 goals in 54 appearances. This included nine goals in the UEFA Cup, with a four goal haul against Kuusysi Lahti making him the first player to score four in a European match for Liverpool. He started the FA Cup final, where Liverpool beat Sunderland 2-0 at Wembley to lift the trophy.
