1992 Pro Set #270 Gordon Strachan MGC 9
This Gordon Strachan card is number 270 from the 1992 Pro Set English Football collection, Part 2, covering the 1991-92 First Division season.
The 1992 Pro Set was the second series of English football cards produced by the American manufacturer Pro Set. The set consisted of two parts totalling over 500 cards across all four divisions.
Strachan captained Leeds United to the last ever First Division title in 1991-92, overhauling his former club Manchester United in the title race. He was 35 years old and had been written off by Alex Ferguson when he left Old Trafford for Leeds three years earlier.
Alongside Gary McAllister, David Batty and Gary Speed, Strachan formed part of one of the finest midfields in the English game. His tactical intelligence, energy and precise passing were central to Howard Wilkinson’s title winning side. He had already been named FWA Footballer of the Year the previous season and was awarded an OBE following the championship triumph.
