1996 Merlin Premier Gold #150 Slaven Bilic MGC 9
This Slaven Bilic card is number 150 from the 1996 Merlin Premier Gold collection, covering the 1996-97 Premier League season.
Merlin Premier Gold was a premium trading card set produced annually during the late 1990s, featuring foil card designs across the Premier League.
Bilic was in his first full season at West Ham when this card was issued, having signed from Karlsruher SC in January 1996 for a club record fee. The Croatian international quickly established himself at the heart of the defence in Harry Redknapp’s entertaining West Ham side, playing alongside the likes of Julian Dicks, John Moncur and Paulo Futre.
He made 41 appearances during the 1996-97 campaign and scored three goals, including strikes against Liverpool and Sunderland in the Premier League. He was voted runner up for the Hammer of the Year award behind Julian Dicks. Bilic also represented Croatia at Euro 96 during the summer of 1996, featuring in all four matches as the nation reached the quarter finals in their major tournament debut.
