The card was issued during Wise’s first season at Chelsea. He had signed from Wimbledon in July 1990 for a then club record fee of £1.6 million and made an immediate impact, scoring 13 goals in 44 matches in his debut campaign.
Born in Kensington, London on 16 December 1966, Wise began his career at Wimbledon, where he was part of the celebrated “Crazy Gang” that shocked Liverpool to win the 1988 FA Cup.
He provided the free kick from which Lawrie Sanchez headed the winning goal. At Chelsea, he was made captain by Glenn Hoddle in 1993 and went on to lead the club to two FA Cups, the League Cup and the European Cup Winners’ Cup.
He made 445 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 76 goals across 11 seasons.
