Merlin Premier Gold was a premium trading card set produced annually during the late 1990s, featuring foil card designs across the Premier League. As Beckham’s first mainstream trading card, this is one of the most sought after cards in the entire Merlin Premier Gold series and a cornerstone of any serious Premier League card collection.
The 1996-97 season was the campaign that changed everything for Beckham. On the opening day, he announced himself to the world with a spectacular goal from the halfway line against Wimbledon at Selhurst Park, lobbing goalkeeper Neil Sullivan from inside his own half. The strike was voted the 18th greatest sporting moment of all time in a Channel 4 poll and remains one of the most replayed goals in Premier League history.
