1927 D.C. Thomson Top Form Footballers #12 Dixie Dean SGC 2.5
This card is number 12 from the 1927 D.C. Thomson Top Form Footballers series, issued in The Rover magazine (issue no.255, dated 5 March 1927). It depicts W.R. Dean of Everton, universally known as Dixie Dean.
The card has been graded SGC 2.5 Good+.
The card was issued just weeks after Dean made his England debut, in a 3-3 draw against Wales at Wrexham on 12 February 1927, in which he scored twice. At the time of issue, Dean was 20 years old and had been at Everton since his £3,000 transfer from Tranmere Rovers in 1925.
Dean would go on to become the most prolific scorer in English football history. In the 1927-28 season, the year after this card was published, he set an unbroken record of 60 league goals in a single First Division season, leading Everton to the league title. He scored 383 goals in 433 appearances for Everton, including 37 hat-tricks. He won 16 caps for England, scoring 18 goals, and was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame as an inaugural member in 2002.
