1990 Pro Set #37 Kerry Dixon MGC 9
This Kerry Dixon card is number 37 from the 1990 Pro Set English Football collection, covering the 1990-91 First Division season.
The 1990 Pro Set was the debut series of English football cards produced by the American manufacturer Pro Set, featuring a 328 card checklist covering all four divisions.
Dixon was in his eighth season at Chelsea when this card was issued. The previous campaign had seen him score 26 league goals as the club finished fifth in the First Division, their highest position since 1970. He had been the driving force behind Chelsea’s revival during the 1980s, firing the club to two promotions and establishing himself as one of the most prolific strikers of his era.
The 1990-91 season saw Chelsea finish in a mid table position. Dixon continued to find the net regularly but the goals were beginning to slow, and he departed for Southampton in 1992, ending a nine year spell at Stamford Bridge. He left as one of the most beloved players in the club’s history, with supporters famously chanting his name at Wembley when he faced Chelsea in the 1994 FA Cup semi final while playing for Luton Town.
