1961 Swedish Rekord Magasinet Sportsmen Pairs Jimmy Greaves / Jens Söderberg
This Jimmy Greaves card is from the 1961 Swedish Rekord Magasinet Sportsmen series (issue 26), an uncut two card panel pairing Greaves with Jens Söderberg.
Rekord Magasinet was a Swedish weekly sports magazine that printed two cut out sportsmen on the front cover of most issues between 1956 and 1965, pairing athletes from different disciplines. The panels were designed to be separated, making surviving uncut pairs scarcer than individual singles. The series may contain as many as 1,000 cards across its full run.
Greaves was 21 years old when this card was issued in 1961. He had already scored 124 First Division goals in just four seasons at Chelsea and was established as one of the most prolific goalscorers in English football. He moved to AC Milan in April 1961, though his stay in Italy was short lived, returning to England in December 1961 to sign for Tottenham Hotspur for £99,999.
He went on to become the highest goalscorer in the history of English top flight football with 357 goals, a record that still stands and may never be surpassed.
