1967-68 A&BC Star Players #2 Geoff Hurst
This Geoff Hurst card is number 2 from the 1967-68 A&BC Star Players set, identifying him as a West Ham United player.
A&BC (Anglo American Bubblegum Company) Star Players was a bubblegum card set issued in 1967, featuring leading players from across the Football League.
Hurst was the most famous striker in the world when this card was issued, just one year on from his hat trick in the 1966 World Cup final at Wembley. His three goals against West Germany made him the first and still only player to score a hat trick in a World Cup final, a record that has stood for nearly 60 years.
The 1967-68 season saw Hurst continue his prolific scoring for West Ham, including six goals in a single match against Sunderland in October 1968, a game West Ham won 8-0. He remained at the heart of the West Ham attack until 1972, finishing as the club’s fourth highest all time goalscorer with 242 goals.
