The card was issued during Venables’ first season at Tottenham Hotspur. He had joined from Chelsea in May 1966 for £80,000 and would go on to captain Spurs to FA Cup victory in 1967, beating his former club Chelsea 2-1 at Wembley.
Born in Dagenham on 6 January 1943, Venables began his career at Chelsea, making 202 appearances before his move to Spurs. As a manager, he won La Liga with Barcelona in 1985 and the FA Cup with Tottenham in 1991, before leading England to the semi-finals of Euro 96.
Venables passed away on 25 November 2023 at the age of 80.
